Hi everyone, I am "new" to Steve Perry, if you want to call it new. Meaning, I've heard Journey songs on the radio for years and always liked what I heard, BUT I just never looked beyond who they were. This site seems to be more active than a lot I have encountered (I even started yet another SP site featuring fan fic--can't get enough of it) steveperryfoolish-heart.webs.com/Anyhoo, I am 42, married and no kids. What brought me to the wonderful world of Steve is the song Foolish heart. I was driving home from work just a month ago and heard this song and this powerful voice and just needed to know more. Well long story short, I've been devouring every bit of information (I was not aware of the "drama" surrounding Journey)and songs i've never heard before. I'm hoping someone can send me a link that works to the infamous Herbie Herbert Castles burning interview. I've read the one from 2001. My favorite Journey song before I realized it was Journey Lovin, touchin, squeezin I've since made other songs my favorites Little girl, Patiently, Winds of march etc but then I heard Mother Father yesterday and was totally blown away. I have favorite singers obviously, but Steve's voice brings out every emotion :'(imaginable. Ok his looks, lord have mercy. He was so physically beautiful. Not too many singers or men period have that he's got it all package. He had looks, voice, stage presence, he was sexy as h*ll, seemed to have a sense of humor etc. Sorry for being long winded. I had to speak my mind, as there is no one else to talk to about this. Thanx for your time.

Welcome to the Perry Hotel, lol! It is nice to have another Steve Perry fan here to chat with. It is a small group that post here, but we are friendly & respectful of each other's view points, so it is a good place to chat about Perry & Journey . I'm more of a Steve Perry fan, NOT into the Current Journey, however I love the Journey with Steve Perry!! I do not care who Neal & Jon get to sing for Journey, it will always be Perry for me. He is the best!! I saw him in concert with Journey several times, he has amazing vocals & talent, NOBODY can do it like him in my opinion!! I read the Herbie Herbert stuff along time ago, I'm sorry I would not remember where to find any links, it was just too long ago. I only remember that what he had to say wasn't all that nice about ANY of the band members. Oh, and as for me, I'm single & have two adult children. One is out of the house and on his own. The other adult child is living with me and is disabled & not able to live on her own. It was nice to have you post here , hope you come back & chat again soon

Properry said Welcome to the Perry Hotel, lol! It is nice to have another Steve Perry fan here to chat with. It's good that ppl can be respectful of others viewpoints, i've been on enough sites where that is not the case. I'm more of a Steve Perry fan, NOT into the Current Journey, however I love the Journey with Steve Perry!! I do not care who Neal & Jon get to sing for Journey, it will always be Perry for me. ME: You know i've seen one of the newer singers of Journey on tv before on a show (can't recall which one-I want to say Steve Augeri) I remembered him being very good, but I wasn't aware of Steve so I had no other reference to go by. Lucky you, you've seen him in concert. I read the Herbie Herbert stuff along time ago, I'm sorry I would not remember where to find any links, it was just too long ago. I only remember that what he had to say wasn't all that nice about ANY of the band members. ME: All of the links i've encountered are dead. I've managed to read bits and pieces of the interview, only b/c someone quoted from it. Oh, and as for me, I'm single & have two adult children. One is out of the house and on his own. The other adult child is living with me and is disabled & not able to live on her own. ME: Sorry to read about the latter. Hope all is well otherwise. Welcome! I think most here are "Perry Onlies", so you should feel right at home. Personally, I think Jon and Neal are asses, but that's JMO ;D I haven't been able to find a working link for the Castles Burning interview lately either. Maybe someone will find a copy of it for you to read. It is a lot of self serving BS from that blowhard, if you ask me ;D Icubud, do you have a copy of it? To Arden
Thank you.
I guess I will keep looking, i'm always stumbling across something interesting to read concerning Journey/ Steve Perry.
Based on the very limited knowledge that I have about Journey and Herbie Herbert, i'm going to take a wild guess and ASSume jealously on his end. He strikes me as being someone who may have wanted or wished he'd had the talent to be a musician himself. I looked at the footage on Youtube (blue jean spec videos) and when the interviewer said to Herbie Herbert what drives you? You're not a singer or a musician etc, it seemed to me that he dropped his head in defeat, like the question really got to him, of course I could just be reading into it.
Jon and Neal probably are/were asses, only they know what they put Steve through and vice versa. As other ppl are suggesting i'd love to read a good book about how it really was between all of them, on the road etc. Thanx again.

I will check my files, in the meantime I have emailed the webmaster of Journey-Zone and reported the broken link and requested its repair or a copy of the article.
Arden I agree with your evaluation of the interview. I am sure there is some truth in it BUT it is inflamed, spun and bitter. Petty little man Herbie must be.
Oh - welcome aboard prettyperry79. Foolish Heart - wow - some great vocals! The man can absolutely SING a song! Oh to hear...

Thank you for looking into it and thanx for the welcome. I recently ordered the book by Neil Daniels, and I believe there are quotes from Herbie Herbert in there. Foolish heart, I still get chills even though i've played that song at least a dozen times since discovering it

Matt's (the interviewer) website is down. Dave from Journey-Zone replied to my email and we will see what happens. I scoured the web last night and learned that anyone who reference the article on their web page did a hyperlink to Matt's website -- so all of them don't work. That is ONE of the reasons why I wish people would include the text of an article and then include the hyperlink and credit to the source document/file. Hopefully this doesn't mean that the interview text is lost for good. I am pretty sure I have saved personal PDFs of the interview on my old desktop. However I need to take the hard drive to someone and have the files burned to a CD or downloaded to a jump drive because the motherboard on that computer gave up the ghost around 2003. If and when I am successful I will figure out a way to share.

I got the book yesterday, and am already on page 53. It's interesting, i'm sure a lot of what is in this book is not new to Journey/ Steve fans, even I as a newer fan am already aware of a lot of what is in this book, but there are othet tidbits I wasn't aware of.
Herbie has some colorful language (he's kind of funny actually) he doesn't really seem to like too many ppl aside from Neal and Gregg (and ppl he respects). Interesting to know supposedly he didn't like Robert Fleischman either.

It must be a good read because you already on page 53 ;D I 'm glad you are enjoying it. I did not ever take everything Herbie said as the gospel truth. I think he HEAVILY exaggerated things, so he could get fans to read what he had to say about Journey. Enjoy reading!!

I'm a few pages off from finishing the book.
Save your money, or if able borrow from library. It was an interesting read, true, however MOST info you can find online. I did learn a few (very few tidbits) that I didn't already know. I don't regret buying the book necessarily, but I wish I had stumbled across that All things forum (Dominic's-i'm sure most of you are aware of it) yesterday--A poster named Beakie posted a lot of interviews from Steve, that gives a glimpse into his mind. It's funny how Steve is so private, yet when he allows his guard to go down, he will say some things that gives you food for thought--ie his thoughts on relationships, sex etc. He comes across as a sensitive emotional guy. Anyway, my personal opinion the book isn't worth purchasing. Oh the pictures in the book could have been better.

Hey thanks for sharing your review of the book. So the pictures in the book were not so good huh?
Oh & I think Steve's interviews are lots more fun & are MUCH more meaningful interviews . As for Neal & Jon 's interviews, they tend to be more negative & do not make for a good read in MY opinion. Again that is just MY own opinion about them, I do not expect anyone to feel the same way as me.
Anyway I will check out that board you were talking about , I'm not sure , maybe I have & just do not remember it.

Anyway I will check out that board you were talking about , I'm not sure , maybe I have & just do not remember it. I enjoy Steve's interviews as well, especially the ones where his guard is down. As for Neal and Jon, you're right, their's tend to be a little tactless at times (though I wish I could find that one interview from Steve where he "dogged" one of them, I think Neal about sleeping with a transsexual, that was funny) of all the Steve interviews I've read or listened to that's the only one i've seen where he spoke disparagingly about them. Reading the book, It is mentioned that they Neal etc didn't have the guts to tell JSS that he was out of Journey, he had to find out through a friend who thought he already knew, then they wouldn't return his calls (very cowardly) but again that is hearsay. The pictures were adequate I guess, but some never before seen pix would have been better. Here is the link to that site. dominicdambro.com/Forum/index.php

Hey thanks for the link to the site. I checked it out and saw a couple of nics that looked familiar from another board. It looks like that site is all up to date with the Perry happenings. yes, it was talked about on the MR board how JSS was treated poorly by Neal & Jon, however though JSS was NOT the only singer that got treated poorly by the Neal & the band members. I still think Perry got treated the worst by them because he was with Journey for so many, years & he was one of the ones that helped co-write & make the music that we fans still continue to love today. He sang his heart out for the fans & gave his very best to the fans & to his band mates for all the years he was with them. Least that is what one of things I got from Perry's interviews , he didn't say it exactly like I put it here, that is just the way I took it to mean in his interviews. In my opinion, if the band could do Perry badly after all the many years he was with them , then the "other singers" that came after Perry, they would have no problem treating any of them badly too. Anyway that is just my opinion.
