Great interview you did there, Mitch! Probably the best one I've read since he split with Journey and he has done a fair number since '98, actually. You let him talk and didn't ask questions while he was pausing to finish his thoughts. You also posed questions about the possiblity of him singing again and tried hard to get a real answer. I applaud your efforts in managing to do that without being overbearing. That was a fine line you were walking, dude!! He has kicked more than one interviewer to the curb over the years when they got too pushy. I am remembering one in particular that makes me laugh to think of it! You were very smooth and respectful, though. Any chance you'd put the audio of that interview up on your website? It is alot easier to gather the meaning of what he's saying verbally, instead of in print.

Hey, Mitch!! We're Perry fans...we've learned to be very patient. I'd like to know what you guys were talking about when the battery died!! PN is right about Steve putting interviewers in their place when they go too far. I think I remember reading the one she is talking about. I enjoyed reading his take on the current music industry and the difference in the way songs are given a chance or not. He also seems to be very up to date on the different options to release songs on the internet. Did he give you any hints as to what he might be thinking along those lines? Do you think you could possibly motivate him along those lines?? you're welcome... I"ll be happy to answer any other questions... got three nights of shows to work in a row... so I may be a little slow in replying....

Hey Mitch!!
Great interview!!!
They questions you asked pushed him a little yet you allowed him the space and time to reply. There is more in your interview than we have heard from Mr. P. in a long time!!
The subject of today's music industry was great to read. I am so really put off by the entire industry today - yet somehow want to encourage and support new talent. Mr. P's insight was very helpful. I checked out the RnRSoldiers and I will be keeping an ear on them. I really like "Anthem" - it has substance.
It is great to see him "fight for the music" - That is one thing Perry has always done. I think it really shows in both of the dvd's he produced, GH & Houston - he has great respect for the music that he helped create and nurture.
You mentioned that you have 3 shows in a row you are working on - anyone interesting?
hey arden - was that interview the NYTimes - the one where the reporter said something like "hey I hear the pipes are gone"? And Perry got ticked off at him and sang over the phone? I think that one was the summer of the rodeos!

The NYTimes interview was Mike Wise...who Steve didn't seem particularly impressed with according to his comments on Joe Benson's show a year or so ago..."Oh, yeah, THAT guy"...mumble mumble, but I don't think it was the same interview. That guy pissed Steve off and Steve raised his voice to him, but he wasn't singing!!! I'll have to do some digging and see if I can find it. Hey Mitch!! Great interview!!! So you were talking to him in person rather than over the phone?? That's great. It is too bad that you can't post the audio. Maybe for part 2?? Hey, Mitch!! Hey Mitch..welcome to the board. Sure is great to meet another Cdn fan of Journey, just one Province away to the East too eh....lol Fantastic interview you did with Steve. He must have felt extremely comfortable with you. Like the others have said, this is the best interview he has given in awhile. You asked great questions and you listened without interuptions.. The feelings Steve had came through so well in this interview..Like we could feel his pain, and anger. And I am glad you did not edit the interview. I hope you get to do more with him. Is this your first interview with him? How did you manage to get this interview, was he referred to you? If you cannot answer these questions, I totally understand. I also checked out your BW&BK site...very nice site I must add. I can see me visiting it on a regular basis.

I cannot add anything, or ask any question that's already been asked...so I'll just say this:
Thank you so much for this interview! It's the most candid I've ever read with Steve Perry. He must've felt extremely comfortable with you to "let down his guard," so to speak. I would love it if you were able to score a part two with him.
Again, thank you. I wish I could think of a clever question to ask, but alas! I can't, lol!

One other thing, I find it extremely troubling how the reporter inserted cuss words into the interview. My Stevie wouldn't talk like that. I don't know what kind of legal charges he can file, but he should def. look into it. Your friend in Jesus, Lorraine Lorraine I have several interviews on cd with Steve and the guys from Journey and a live solo concert cd and yes Steve does talk like that on occassion. Steve is human after all.

Errr... Loraine "Stevie" did talk like that.... and that's another reason we tape interviews..... to have "proof" for those who deny....
But thanks for the laugh....

Mitch
Thanks for a wonderful interview. Steve has been so open lately more open than he has been in years and it is good see this.
Was Steve a hard person to interview compared to the other's you have interviewed? Were there things that you could not ask Steve that you wanted to ask him?
Off all the recent interviews Steve has done I have to say this one is #1!!!

Off all the recent interviews Steve has done I have to say this one is #1!!! Steve wasn't hard at all... I gave him a question and he ran with it.... I barely had to talk... Gotta love interviews like that. Sure, at first, he didn't want to open up, but once he did -- it was gold.... I asked everything I wanted to ask.... I really only had two questions -- tell me about the DVD and when will you sing again....

If I would have seen Mitch's reply and known he was interviewing Bon Jovi last night, it would have been nice to ask him to mention to Jon that he just finished interviewing Steve. After all, they do know eachother well and he did ask Steve to sing two songs with him on stage, in the past. I also wanted to mention to Mitch that Journey opened for the Stones years ago, so the idea that Steve might be asked (or would consider) doing a song with them is not far fetched at all. I assume he must know all of them. I'm not sure how many people can manage to just stroll backstage at a Stones Concert with a friend, but Steve did just recently.

Hello, Though I met Jon twice in the past (once in Quebec City and once in Albany --) I have never interviewed him... Last night in Montreal... I did pictures -- got some great great shots mind you and I did get to watch three songs from stage left.. but no interview.... Great band and two great shows!

Hi Mitch, I just wated to let you know that I thought you did an excellent job on the interview with Steve & enjoyed it VERY much! I sure hope Steve gives you a 2nd interview. Lori I've made all the necessary people aware of the positive feedback to the interview and have sent links to this and other forums to them.... and in doing so did request a second interview. But I wouldn't hold my breath. They have a lot of interviews and interviewers to cover and rarely do you get a second chance to promote the same product.... I'm just very thankful I got this ONE shot.... it was awesome and the response has been overwhelming....

Mitch, I'm glad that you got a lot of positive feedback to your interview. I think the way you conducted it deserved the props you've been given. I hope that Steve will give you a Pt 2.
While I know your answer to this question, I would like to give you an opportunity to share your impression of Steve's "whatever he was" comment in the interview. You actually talked to Steve and heard him make the comment so you had the benefit of hearing his tone.
Many took it out of context and used it to justfy continuing the Perry bashing most of us are all too familiar with. That was unfortunate because many of the things he said were overshadowed.
Will you share your thoughts?

Steve's comment about Steve seemed very innocent/ flippant to me.... It was more an end of a thought (searching for a word) than a pointed jab.... I don't think it was said with any intent or meaness.... I was amazed people made so much of it... it really didn't seem very mean spirited and I doubt it was....

Thank you, Mitch, for your reply.
Arden's right; so many people have taken that particular quote and run with it, trying to prove Mr. Perry deliberately said something mean and hateful about Mr. Augeri. Mr. Perry has never said anything detrimental about any of his former band members, nor the present line up. Some of his former bandmates, however, have said some really nasty things about Mr. Perry in the past. It's almost like some of these people were so quick to jump on a quote from Mr. Perry that could possibly be taken in the context of some kind of slamming, almost as if they were trying to justify what's been said by others in the past. It's really rather pathetic, if you ask me.
Again, thank you for your thoughts on that quote, Mr. Lafon.
