I assume many have already heard about the reality TV show that is going to have Tommy Lee from Motley Crue going back to college. You may also have heard that Steve Perry, not Tommy Lee, was the first choice. Why Steve?? One of the creators of the show is BT, the music producer from "Monster". Steve said in an interview that BT had inspired him. Thankfully, he didn't inspire him to do this TV show!! www.boston.com/news/globe/living/articles/2004/10/02/the_world_at_his_fingertips?mode=PFTo make matters more confusing, BT has another title to add to his resume: creator of a reality television show. While scoring the music for "Monster" he met Steve Perry, lead singer of the rock band Journey, and thought it would be funny to send an old rocker like Perry back to college. "I thought it would be the funniest thing in the universe if we had Steve Perry hiring people to take his finals for him and joining the track team and running in black socks and smoking cigarettes," BT says. Apparently NBC also thought it was a funny concept, because the network has bought the currently untitled show. BT will get a creator's credit, serve as a producer, and, naturally, write music for the show. Perry passed on the opportunity to enroll in college, but former Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee has agreed to the project. So BT -- who doesn't own a television set -- will now also be a television executive.

I remember reading Steve could be quite the prankster (back in the day).......and he has quite a sense of humor, but, I can't imagine Steve doing that stuff... at least not now! I wonder what BT was thinking!

I find this a little insulting to Steve's intelligence....
"if we had Steve Perry hiring people to take his finals for him"
First of all, Thank God that he didn't do this, not that there was any doubt he wouldn't...he's too private. Second of all, Steve is intelligent...he wouldn't have needed to pay anyone to take his finals for him. Tommy Lee? Eh. Maybe.
I'm so sick of reality television, I won't be watching anyway.
Sparkle, too funny! I hope Ross and Jon enjoy themselves, really I do. They couldn't possibly make larger fools of themselves could they?
Hugs!! Lee

Anyone watching that Celeb Fit Club? Jani (sorry of spelling is wrong) from Warrant I believe (again not up on the band he was in) is on there, I wonder if Steve was ever approached for anything like that.... Or if he would consider it, If I see him again on tv or whatnot I hope it is him performing Bill

I saw that Celeb Fit Club on TV last night. I think they are rerunning it. Thought I saw an episode a couple of weeks ago, last night seem to be the 1st show.
Anyway, I could NEVER see Steve doing a show like that or any reality TV show. Too embarrassing, if ya ask me. Steve has more class than that.
I would like to see him guest on American Idol though! Now that would be awesome!

yeah a judge on idol seems like a cool spot for him, and maybe a small performance bit on the show for us fans... ah we can always dream..... hehe I actually like Tommy Lee's song Hold Me Down... Might tune in a bit to see the show when it airs on the 16th... Altho I haven't read his book or gotten his cd just remember it from mtv and radio... Bill

No, Steve would never do a reality show, IMO. He doesn't like invasion into personal life, so I could never see that happening. Didn't Steve and BT spend alot of time together during Monster? I think most people who know anything about Perry knows that he doesn't smoke. Those reality shows make my skin crawl. LOL!

this idea works for a guy like Tommy Lee, but for Perry?? Frankly, I was pretty insulted by BT's remarks with regard to Perry and this project. I always had a weird feeling about BT and how he viewed Perry during the Monster project. this fits right in......

Here's another Steve mention about it. At least Steve is getting some good press!!!!! www.popmatters.com/tv/reviews/t/tommy-lee-goes-to-college-050816.shtmlLee wasn't even the producers' first choice. Steve Perry turned down the series before Lee jumped on board. And based on the first two episodes, the ex-Journey frontman made a very wise choice indeed.

I thought that comment was pretty stupid. Kevin Shirley said in an interview around TBF that Steve didn't smoke or drink and didn't want people around him who did. BT should have known that. I also don't know why he would think Steve would NEED to hire someone to take his tests for him or that he would be dorky enough to run in black socks!!! I think Tommy Lee fits BT's vision much better!!! I thought it would be the funniest thing in the universe if we had Steve Perry hiring people to take his finals for him and joining the track team and running in black socks and smoking cigarettes," BT says. this idea works for a guy like Tommy Lee, but for Perry?? I wondered if kids would even recognize Steve Perry really? Most know Tommy Lee but the age range of these kids is what 18-22ish? Meaning the last time they may have seen Steve Perrys face (outside of the short lived TBF era) was 1986 when they were aproximately 2-5 yrs old?
I know almost every one of the parents for the kids at that school would probably recognize him (maybe even a few of the teachers), and if he sang any one of the many tunes they made famous as Journey or even just Oh Sherrie that alone would show folks who he was, just wonder at sight view how many students would recognize him in the halls etc...
Its fun to watch Tommy Lee there, lots of weird moments like doing laundry and being asked about Pam and how everyone has seen him naked etc, I think the show is a mini escape from reality even tho it is supposed to be reality...

Anyone see that MTV 70's house? Another reason I think nobody would recognize Steve Perry is they had a quiz for these kids (probably around same age 20ish), and there were SUPER simple questions like what song is this (stairway to _________) and only ONE got it right! And other basic questions like what is FOGHAT and again only ONE got it right (the band) etc....
Really surprised me (made me feel old I guess) at 37 I know them all and maybe even the generation before me I could still answer questions from 50-60's but these kids knew nothing of the 70's era...

I gotta agree with you Bill. As much as we all here would recognize Steve...in a heart beat. LOL
I don't think the average young person would recognize him. 99% of pics out there of him are old ones. He's also been out of the limelight too long. If someone said the lead singer from Journey......maybe.(cuz even 6 yrs later most people don't think of Steve A.....but that's another topic! LOL)
Tommy Lee fits the "mold" way better.......and as far as embarrassing.......remember THE video/home movie of himself and Pam A. out there for all to see......If he wasn't embarrassed about that getting out....and I think he was mad, not embarrassed, he certainly won't be embarrassed about the show!
