I´m staying home

So I finally made the decision of not going to Sweden Rock Festival to see my heroes Journey,why do you ask?
Well,the reason is Steve Perry!
I have nothing against the current line up with Augeri and Castronovo but I think they should do better with including songs from Tall Stories and more from the latest 2 full length albums "Arrival" and "Generations" coz that´s the state of Journey today.
I have never seen this band perform live and when I finally get the chance,why should I settle with 3 original members and the most important guy not featured in this line up?
Here I am sitting enjoying every single minute of Live in Houston 1981 and knows exactly that´s the voice I want to hear if it´s Journey,the new line up should stop playing a greatest hits show and show everybody what kinda band they are in 2006 - and they aren´t the 1981 line up!
Gillan won´t do any songs from the Coverdale era of Deep Purple,Hagar only did a couple of songs from the Roth years and Phil Collins did mostly songs from the albums he sang lead on with Genesis.
I will see this line up of Journey if they could do a set of Arrival,Generations,Tall Stories and only 2-3 Perry classics.
Nothing beats Perry,Smith,Schon,Valory,Cain!

Good for you Kaj! There is only one Journey line-up and they are playing right NOW on VH-1 classic! Do you have the Houston DVD? If you don't....get it ASAP!! It will blow your mind.

Kaj, the Houston Escape tour DVD/CD are amazing. It will blow your mind! Perry isn't called "The VOICE for nothing! This show showcases 5 great musicians at their BEST! Keep an eye on the boards as Steve Perry himself said he is remastering the old journey/solo stuff and get this adding NEW material . I can't wait for it to be available and start seeing and hearing him doing the press thing!

Where ya been?

I see that you said you ARE listening to the Houston Live DVD!! LOL!! Good choice! You can hear every one of the instruments and how they all blend together with the voice. I think Perry put his heart and soul into that one...both during the performance and during the remastering.

I don't blame you for staying home. I've heard the current lineup once and it was heart breaking. I went to the HOB after the WOF ceremony because if Perry had shown up, I would have never forgiven myself.

It was the worst concert I've ever been to. You could not even hear the vocals most of the time...unforgivable in a band that was once known for it's soaring vocals. When you could hear Augeri, he was off key. Most of the time he was completely drowned out by distorted guitar and drums. Even Cain's keyboards could barely be heard. I thought Neal would NEVER stop torturing the SSB!!!

The highlight was getting to see Smitty.

Hey Arden,I know I haven´t been around much here lately but I have been working so hard with our own website www.melodic.net so it takes up most of my time but I will try to log in more often here and share some thoughts and opinions about Journey/Perry.
I just gotta tell u guys about a nice and heartful thing that happened a long time ago,22 years ago to be exact...geez...where does time go?!
Anyway,I had just bought "Street talk" and a friend visited me one evening so I thought I would play Perry´s first solo album for him,his name is Peter and we´re still in touch with eachother but not a lot.
When we got to the song "Running alone" I saw tears falling down from his eyes and I asked him why he´s sad but he just said,"I´m happy coz this song and vocals are so good it makes me cry"....I will never forget that moment.
Don´t think Augeri has that special touch to move people like Perry has,when he opens his mouth.....time stands still.
Going to bed now but all be good!

Hi Kaj,
They have to play the hits tour after tour to make money. Nobody wants to hear the Augeri stuff except for a handful of fanclubbers. I think they need to write material and stand on their own. Neal wanted to move on and made such a big thing about never being a greatest hits act, but that's what they are. Now they may be lip synching, too. I bet deep down, Perry is sad to see Neal & Jon drop their standards so much. They were such a force to be reckoned with and so passionate about their live performances being perfect.
Yeah, Trial by Fire is so good. It showed so much musical maturity on all their parts. Unfortunately, Neal says it puts him to sleep! It may have one too many ballads, but they were making magic and it translated right through to the hearts of the fans. How many times I've seen people ask over the years for them to play more from that CD. It's just not going to be the same with this line-up. It's all about chemistry and charisma.
