Thank you for your recent note about this week's OFF THE RECORD with Joe Benson that will feature the music of Journey and Steve Perry, as well as Joe's brand new conversation with Steve and Steve's latest recording. In response to hundreds of inquiries, here are answers to the Top 5 questions. #1: How do I hear the show? JB: If there isn't an affiliate listed within your listening range (http://unclejoe.com/xotr.html), then check out a couple of stations that stream on the Internet -- but check it out before OFF THE RECORD airs! If you can't get one station to stream, go to another. But do it before the program is supposed to air! #2: When will the show air? JB: It's up to you to verify the time OFF THE RECORD will air on our affiliates. Unfortunately, most 21st century radio stations are very short-staffed, so don't count on a timely reply to your e-mail inquiry -- they just don't have the people to handle it. If you want to know the airtime for sure, call the station (check with directory assistance or look under "Contacts" on their website for the phone number). #3: Can I get/buy a copy of the show? JB: No, copies of OFF THE RECORD are not available legally. It is only produced for broadcast. #4: Can you please give/ask/tell Steve.... JB: I have been dealing with artists on the air since 1968 and have been doing OFF THE RECORD since 1998. No matter what my personal relationships with individual artists entail, my professional relationship with each one does not include passing along personal messages/phone numbers/e-mail addresses/photos/items of clothing or food. #5: What about the new song? JB: Yes, we'll be playing Guff's (http://www.guffmusic.com/) brand new recording of "I Can't See It In Your Eyes," featuring vocal work and production from the former Journey singer. Yes, it's absolutely killer. I expect to post/e-mail information on the availability of downloading the song the first part of next week. Note: This is a very new recording and setting up downloads with iTunes, mySpace, etc is similar to license renewals with the Department Of Motor Vehicles - they get to it on their own schedule ;] If I may paraphrase what Steve has so eloquently said many times, thank you for your support! I know you'll enjoy the show and the music! -- Rock on! Joe Benson KLOS, Los Angeles unclejoe.com/xotr.html

Sorry the other thread got offtopic so much (my fault totally), very interested in hearing this show altho I am sorta afraid it will be the same as the last 6 of them were Steve is sorta a tease at times it feels, he starts stops hints and then comes back at it and says can't say anything (about many topics). I wish him well and hope he sings again and will listen to the interview but won't expect to be blown away with any new information. Life is too short Steve needs to sing again - nuff said... Hope everyone has a good safe weekend! Bill

I agree Bill - sometimes I think he just plain "don't wanna" anymore. That's his choice of course, but I wonder why he just doesn't come out and say "I don't plan to record any new solo music for the foreseeable future, I'm doing other stuff". It's not like we (fans) are going to just disappear. I'll ALWAYS be a Steve fan.

That was exactly what my question to him was that he did not answer. I said it would be nice to know now if he really is through instead of every year being disappointed. Oh well

Oh well So let me get this straight. You think he owes you a statement such as "I will never record again" or "I have a CD ready to release." Life isn't as black and white as that most of the time. And the other things he talked about don't matter and are disappointing. I don't understand this mindset at all.

Well, I was not disappointed with the Q&A because I didn't go into expecting him to tell us he was going to sing again or have a new CD out. I thought maybe he did it for the fans, so WE could have another opportunity to ask him questions & hear from him again.
You know, I would be THRILLED, if he said he had a new CD out, but it seems he is doing other things now, I respect that.
I appreciate him giving time to his fans this way with the Q&A, and the interviews, because otherwise HE could just keep living his private life, and NOT give us ( the fans) any time at all. I certainly DON'T want that to happen!!! I LIKE hearing from him this way too!!!

lora i honest;y do not be;ieve that bill meant it at all like that. i read what he wrote many times b4 typing this. he just meant he hopes but doesnt expect it, and that for us fans he needs to come back , nothing was said about owing etc. s That was exactly what my question to him was that he did not answer. I said it would be nice to know now if he really is through instead of every year being disappointed. Oh well So let me get this straight. Although your reply wasn't directed toward me, maybe I can provide some insight from my viewpoint. Steve says year after year how much he misses singing, misses the fans, etc. He must feel his voice is acceptable to him, as he will do a background vocal or two once in a while. Great. We all know he is his biggest critic. He drops hints that he is practicing scales, going to get into the studio to see what he's still got and now on Uncle Joe's interview, he says he's auditioning band members??? It sounded like an offhand joke of some kind, so again we are left wondering. Was it or wasn't it a joke? It is frustrating as a fan to have years of ambiguity. The q&a's ARE fun, the UJB interview's ARE great. We all enjoy hearing from him and it is all worthwhile. That has nothing to do with the question we keep asking, but get no even remotely clear answer. We are left to assume it is not our business as fans why he isn't singing. What is the big secret? If you have no drive or desire any longer...say so. If he lacks confidence in his current vocal abilities, I can only say that he is not listening to his fans or people in the industry.. They think he is most likely STILL the greatest vocalist on the planet, without uttering one high note! He can sing background for Guff, but can't sing an entire song and pop it onto Itunes, if he wants no part of touring or record labels? We are all Perry fans here and on other fan sites. Please don't misunderstand, Lora. Do his most loyal fans, who have stood by him for years, feel they should get the courtesy of a direct answer to the #1 question? Yes...they do. Why? Maybe because HE has led us to believe, for years, (since Behind the Music) that he is "thinking" about performing, and other hints along those lines each year. The only thing that could make this issue for him not black or white is a legal agreement not to sing, and that is why he can't discuss it, or major health/voice issues (and that covers alot of territory). There is just nothing else. He "owes" us nothing. Still...it would be a great courtesy to his fans if he was more clear! They've stood by him through the entire Journey mess and bought every re-released product, etc. We are frustrated with whatever prevents him from saying something concrete to his fans. I suspect these same frustrations are not just on this Perry site. Perhaps some of his fans do feel similarly. We ALL wish him a happy life and good health! If he never sings again, it is his decision alone, not ours, but why can he not be more forthcoming? I know most fans definitely feel it is a huge waste of an unbelievable talent., which saddens all of us. We really, really miss his voice, don't you? It's probably easier for you to understand and accept because you KNOW what his reasons are, or have a very good idea. Unfortunately, the rest of us can only try to read between the lines when he speaks or does a q&a. He was asked if he gets tired of the same questions. If the one that all of us wanted to know the answer to got answered, we'd know whether to look forward to new music or drop the subject! Surely he knows his fans are frustrated with his lack of response to their #1 question?

And the other things he talked about don't matter and are disappointing. I don't understand this mindset at all. No not really but - I realize life can be [usually is] complicated. But it would be nice if he would share with us what he really is thinking about and why he has reservations. He has made remarks before where he said something like he is the most critical of his abilities etc - and that generally is about it. A couple times since the World Series 2 years ago he made the remark about getting the itch again. What is holding him back? I believe - and this may seem very ignorant or over the top - but I believe the majority of HIS fans are now mature adults that he can be "frank" with. He owes us nothing but it would be very sincere and respectful to honestly answer THE question. So to sum up [hopefully this makes sense to the reader] two years of itch or whatever --- something is holding him back and would be nice to just tell us. Even if its something like "you know I just don't want to the get in the press/crunch of the music industry again....yada yada yafa". Hope that helps. I too love hearing from him twice a year via Fan Asylum and the access that he does allow, definitely not all "stars" do that. So his fans are thanksful for that.

Perrynow said it all...
I still dig Steve and always will love his voice but these interviews never go anywhere except to hear him hint or tease around, i wish him well, hope he is enjoying life and if he sings again I will be there but the interviews dance around alot stepping into then out of the fire and I guess that just gets frustrating at times as a fan.

I am llistening live right now on the net (streaming) off wklh 96.5, cool to here him chuckle now and then but between commercials replaying of songs and some goofin I still haven't heard much in terms of real "q&a" material. Still fun tho, wish the interviews were interviews where they talk vs mixing in 50% songs, 10% intros and outros, 30% commercials and maybe 10% at best real interview material.

Of course, I missed the beginning of the interview in the process of trying to figure out how to save it!!! Ang

I thought one of the funny comment he made was when he was talking about Neal doing solo projects and makes the remark "He poked the bear" that was fuuny and also enjoyed the part where he talked about being in his car &having fun cranking up his own music, but turning the music down because he was worried someone next him in another car would recognize him having too much fun listening to his own music.
Hey, I think it would be a real cool thing to look over at the car next to me & see Steve Perry listening to HIS OWN music, and SEE HIM having just as MUCH FUN as ME, playing & listening to HIS music in my car!!
