Ramblings......
One of the items I received for Christmas was the Houston DVD/CD. I figured it was an easy buy for me by someone for Christmas.
It is a great production and the extras are nice.
Now about the concert and my feelings (sure nothing new here):
I can definitely understand why this was such an emotional experience for SP. As I - a mere fan - watched it it drudged up the memories of my youth and the new music, experiences, and hopes/dreams at that time. It also brought back the tough things going on in my life at that time. Lot of baggage - but for SP I am sure it is so much more.
I remember reading where he mentioned that his memories go from the creation of the song forward so it is definitely an experience for him. That the songs are like babies to him. I can definitely understand and why it is so important to him that his babies are always seen in the best possible light. [So having some "replacement" sing his songs has got to hurt and has to be at the heart of a lot of emotions] I can only hope that the concerts were definite highlights for him and he can and does remember the fans (us) reactions to the songs and the performance.
I enjoyed the songs and watching the concert again when the songs were new. When Journey was in the process of soaring to the top of their form. The group changed a lot in these years - musically, looks, and spirit. HH rode 'em hard during this time - and hindsight shows - too hard. The questions popped in my head during the concert: "what if:
- the tour would have been half as long?
- Frontiers would have been produced after a small break from one another?
- they were given time to enjoy the success - privately?
I hope SP does produce and release to us Frontiers & ROR tour packages like this. I really hope to see FTLOSM package with a couple new songs on the CD.
Finally - if anyone has persevered and read this rambling to the end - I really can say with complete certainty that Journey and my youth are tightly connected and I would not have it any other way. And today - I can hear those tunes - and my spirit can still be lifted to push on another day when times are tough or rejoice when things are going great.
Thanks Journey
