I used to use both spybot & adaware, they seemed to do ok. As far as I know they're still free - when I got high-speed from the phone co., I purchased their security package. Try this: www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,8060,00.asp :)sparkle

Ok, don't know why that link didn't work right. It works if you highlight it and paste it into your browser - it's for PC World Magazine's comparison chart of free pop-up blockers. sparkle

adaware se 1.06 is about the easiest to configure that works effectively www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/Once installed let it do updating of reference files (pretty straight forward buttons and interface) once installed and updates are done choose second option "PERFORM FULL SYSTEM SCAN" it takes a few mins longer but finds some extra stuff in temp files and other areas. Then once its done it shows ya the window of things and you decide what to check and delete or check and quarantine. BTW you can right click on anything in that window of stuff it finds and choose READ TAC PAGE and it will take you to a page that describes what that thing is and or possibly where it came from and what threat level it is to your system, mainly it finds cookies and things but sometimes trackers and who knows what else...!! I have used this for about 2-3 years now, I always check and delete what it finds and have never had an issue, what it finds is mainly junk or spam related things installed with other programs etc, altho some programs like weather bug / gator / limewire / kazaa etc all have extra hidden things that this finds sometimes its easier to just remove alot of that extra stuff to help clean out the cobwebs and make things run faster... Sometimes the program will spot it remove it but it will come back the next day, those are a bit tricky, a page like this will help or a google search with the culprit's name and a + ie: gator + remove good page tho with some removal instructions... www.pchell.com/support/spyware.shtmlThen of course there is always that restore disc option, i do that once every 9-12 months it seems LOL OH another GREAT FREE program is trend micros online java based Housecall housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.aspI run this ALL the time and check my hard drives out. It has found things that Norton and McAffee have NOT spotted... really good program for free and its all done thru your web browser. Bill

Thanks Sparkle and Bill!!!
That Pc World site is great. I ended up using the adware se 1.06. I will also check out a couple of other free things they have on there!
Bill, I end up using my recovery disc alot too. But I have been told that if you use it too much it won't work as well. Something about not being able to read it clearly the more you use it.
Thanks guys, you are the greatest!
