Just got word from Moyes he is on tour with Solomon Burke for gigs thru the summer, Solomon has been around for ages, for those that don't know him he is considered a legend in the R&B Blues and Soul realm. Here is a clip of one of his tunes with Junkie XL (featuring Solomon) www.junkiexl.com/multimedia-catchup.htmlAlso here is his website www.thekingsolomonburke.com/Moyes got this gig thru Solomons Guitar player who mentioned to Moyes they needed a good live drummer for the new tour, he auditioned and was hired! Cool part is there is a Detroit MI show June 10th and I am only about 40 mins from Detroit so I will head down to meet up with Moyes and hopefully get a few new pics for the website and maybe some goodies for giveaways in the future etc. Bill Tour Dates are on Solomons Website as well as will be posted at www.MoyesLucas.com

I have been reading a book called "Dream Boogie" about Sam Cooke and I am about mid-way thru it and I just got to the part where they talk about touring and such, it has been fun reading cuz Sam toured with Solomon and there are some funny stories of behind scenes stuff.
What is funny is if I read this 2 months ago those parts would just be in and out of my brain (not knowing Solomon Burke) now that I know Moyes is playing with him his name clicked and I hope when I run into Moyes that I also get to meet Solomon too, especially knowing he had so much history with so many great musicians over the years (like Sam Cooke etc).

Hey, that's interesting news! I just saw Moyes recently on a Jazz channel playing drums for Brenda Russell. She was really a great songwriter for alot of people! It wouldn't surprise me if Steve went to see Moyes with Solomon Burke. He should tell him about the gig, if he hasn't already. That's Steve's kind of music!

I can't believe the 10th has come so quick, (actually its tomorrow as I type this) anyone near detroit and coming to this by chance? detroitfestival.com/06/Moyes comes into Detroit tonight then tomorrow we are gonna meet up at the festival during the mid-day, his show isn't till 9pm Saturday night so that gives us time to finally meet up vs playing phone tag or email tag etc. Should be fun tho and I will bring a camera to snap some shots of Moyes, Solomon and the event and such. Wow what a LONG day, we left to head into Detroit at around 2pm, it's 45 mins away and we figured we would get there let Lauren do kids things enjoy the fest, meet up with Moyes, see the show and head home. Well 3 and a half hours later we finally pulled into Detroit, seems every major road including side streets was under construction, closed, detoured, or was reduced from 4 to 1 lane. Literally we sat in traffic most of the time, getting off then trying to get over to another expressway into the city (same thing when we would get there slow crawl etc), OMG it was almost 6pm when we got there! Ok we get there all the parking garages are FULL, parked about 5 streets away in a not so nice area on the street but there was enough other people having to do the same thing at least we weren't walking alone... Lauren was tired and cranky, especially after sittng so long in the car, no food no water, walking like 5-6 block to get to the fest, only to find stuf was SUPER expensive, a small ice cream was $3, Water $4, a Gyro $8 ! EKKS plus the kids stuff had all closed by 5:30-6 pm and by the time we walked up it was all being torn down. Called Moyes up said we are here, figured that would be cool to at least meet up with him (salvage the day) he said he would be there around 7:30, we went to his stage where he would be playing, hung around till almost 8 no sign of Moyes, called his cell again, no answer, went to get lauren another drink and snack at STABBING prices, came back at around 8:30 and their charter bus had finally got them there (stuck in traffic like we were), he had enough time to take a few pics, give Lauren some drumsticks and then he had to go setup his kit for the show, we stayed for 4 songs they were all great Solomon KNOWS how to work a crowd let me tell ya! But it was super late by this time (10:30ish) and Lauren was cold and tired, so we headed out cuz we knew with that drive in it was gonna be as bad or worse (now that it was dark out) getting home. Actually it wasn't as bad on the way home, detour city for sure, but we got home in just over 2 hrs vs the normal 45 mins, walked in around 1am exhausted here but cant sleep for some reason at the moment, need to get my eyes tired first i guess. Bummer was I had a bag of stuff for Moyes to sign up (for giveaways on the website) but he was so busy rushing after he got there late from the hotel to even sign them up, so I will just mail him out a package of stuff to sign and when i get it back all signed up ill do some giveaways on the site again soon. I did get Stacey to take a few quick shots and Lauren even took a shot of Moyes Stacey and I ! She did a great job for only being 5 yrs old, even got us all in the shot! I will post those pics later, i had to carry in Lauren from the car and the camera is still in the bag in the car and didnt' feel like going back out for it tonight. Bill

Actually it wasn't bad now that I got some sleep and woke up took a shower ate breakfast and reviewed the pics. Lauren is still glowin and playing with her sticks here at home... Just that traffic then the sudden cold wind that came later in the night, did get to meet up take pics and such with Moyes which is what it was all about, and Lauren LOVED it every second of it, so overall it was fun, posted some pics of Stacey and I w/Moyes (pic taken by lauren after trying to show her at age 5 to use the camera LOL) and then pics of Lauren and Moyes with the sticks he gave her and the Solomon Burke Band all are posted up at www.moyeslucas.com

It was really cute how Lauren walked right up and said "I really like the way you play drums, can I have some of your drumsticks?" He reached in his bag and her eyes got big and for the rest of the night (even in bed) she didn't let go of them hehe... Stacey didn't like her pic there, something about her hair and her chin, I dunno, we were all tryin to stay still and waiting in an akward huddle (trying to explain to lauren push the button) looking downward at a 5 yr old holding the camera for a good 20-30 seconds with smiles on our faces feeling dumb etc... but she got it eventually... Me well I for one don't like lookin at any pics of me these days feelin kinda blah, but it was fun runnin into him and taking one of us real quick there. Bill

KILLS me if this is true that Steve was in Detroit on Saturday (same day as Moyes and I) dominicdambro.com/Forum/index.php?topic=302.0Especially since I had a backpack of FTLOSM stuff, a sharpie marker, a camera and was with Stacey (who is also a big fan). If he was at that Solomon concert I am just gonna KICK MY OWN ASS, I wrote to Moyes and asked if he knew Perry was even in Detroit on Saturday (no reply yet) just kills me, I had stuff for Moyes to sign (tons of FTLOSM things etc) Imagine how FREAKED OUT Perry would have been if I said excuse me could you sign these (and pulled out like 20 FTLOSM things from my bag) LOL Bill

Did you ask Moyes if he saw him at the show or backstage? Yep you called it! Altho we dont know for sure what he was doing in Detroit... but sure sounds like maybe there to see Solomon... i wrote him last night about it was gonna call him on it this morning but hes 3-4 hours behind me and he tends to sleep in, so that means i shouldnt call till like 4pm MI time so by then i bet he replies to the email, no mention tho in anyway, i think if he did surprise moyes and show up, moyes knowing how big a fan we are he might have called me back on my cell to say hey come back to the show or somethin...

Hey he could have gone to see a Tigers game? Altho Detroit Tigers were playing in Toronto Blue Jays on the 10th according to their website.
I don't follow sports really beyond the STEELERS, I have followed them since 76 btw not cuz they just won the superbowl etc.
I had sent Moyes an email about it with no reply and I have to talk to him about something else website related so if I remember later today ill see what he says on the phone about all that (if he even knew about Perry being in Detroit).
If he did and saw perry after the show or something im gonna be sad cuz I had to leave (getting late, lauren cranky, getting cold outside etc) but I sure woulda went back if he called my cell (even if i was half way home).

I am so sorry to have not replied on this, spoke with Moyes, he had no idea Steve was in town that night, so not sure what he was doing there in Detroit that day. Maybe he was there to see one of the other artists or some other event in Detroit (or visiting someone). Bill

Moyes wasn't sure if he was or wasn't in town (me either other than the account of seeing him at the airport).
If he was he didn't come say hi to Moyes or Solomon etc.... I can't imagine the story being false and I am not saying that (Detroit is a big city too) who knows maybe he did sneak in saw the show and snuck out as quietly as he came in or came into town to see another artist (that whole fest was full of new and old artists) I know he supports lots of new bands too so its possible the day after there was another show he was there for or something and our paths never crossed (wish they did tho)...
