The video link
Great to see the video produced aligned to what he said was the inspiration truly behind the words of the song.
additional info I located:
The car in video was not Steve Perry’s. Here is what he said about it. “I will tell you that at the end of the making of the video, which is coming soon, you’ll see something I say to the label, and you’ll see how I might get that car.
The car has huge cylinders in the V8, and it has a familiar old Chevelle lope sound to it. That in itself was very exciting to have under the throttle of my right footThe only problem with that particular car is that some of the gas fumes, and oh boy does it eat the gas (because we actually ran out of gas at one point) - the fumes were coming up from the floorboards from moment to moment - that’s why the windows were down.
I have a muscle car and it has 650 horsepower and 650 lbs of torque in that V8. When I want to listen to the engine, I drive that car. I drive my other car, which does not have that kind of horsepower but has an amazing stereo and I play music very loudly. But I must tell you that music and cars are synonymous because it started with rock in one town, and jump in the car to roll to the next town. Rock, and then roll to the next. They belong together.
Driving around in the Chevelle was fun, but when you see the making of the video, you’ll see a mega camera strapped to the front of it right in the line of view. I had a difficult time from moment to moment driving around it. It had its challenges, but I kept my eyes peeled, sang the music, and enjoyed driving that car.
I love the technical aspect of it all. Working with Myriam Santos Studio was so fun because we discussed back and forth as we were doing it, different things to try. She was directing me to do certain things as she was watching her monitor, which I enjoy being directed to. Editing is one of my passions, so I love being on the editing bay when we’re assembling the final pieces because in editing, the whole story can be rearranged and can really be told.
Myriam Santos Studio is a wonderful photographer who did all the promo photos from Traces, who also does music videos. We came up with the concepts together, picked the car, decided for me to drive and not use a trailer or green screen. I love editing, and was very involved in the editing process and the sound design - it’s an extension of how I see the music. Myriam is really a wonderful director, and she’s really one of a kind.
