Ok Evil Strawberry was curious today and he got an idea to try something, since the latest clip of Faithfully 2006 is OBVIOUSLY live from his voice vs the other shows in question where he sounds smooth and pure yet note for note they "merge" seamlessly, Evil decided to do a little experiement with parental supervision of course. Fired up soundforge, remember the whole merge this and that show (two different shows) and one on each side one on the other, well I thought OK we have all these shows that match up vocally to the last second of the song basically except intros and adlibs... SO we put on our safety glasses and took the faithfully clip that is new and live 2006, then I took the faithfully clip from the 2001 vegas show, then for fun kids we put both into the test tube and merged these up note for note from the phrase "Circus lights" and on, btw Evil got this idea from comments explaining possible theories about why these songs match up so well, basically that Journey plays so tightly as a band and have played these songs so many times it is like a carbon copy and that is why the 2 different night shows merge so well. Now I didn't mention this but I have TRIED to merge up songs like this with 4 other live bands/different shows/same songs, again out of curiosity to see if they "merge" like Journeys did, NONE matched all fell out of synch after about 30-45 seconds... Those were for those interested Neil Diamond Steve Perry Metallica & Heart And I did mess with a few others but none stay "merged" for more than say 30-45 seconds without falling totally out of synch soon after. Well by doing this merging the 2001 vegas one ear 2006 vegas faithfully other ear, then putting on the senns (sennheiser for those into studio headphones like me), I pressed play and.... WHAT do ya know, like all the other songs from other bands, this merge falls apart about the 50 second mark and slowly the beats get crossed, vocals start to separate and of course with headphones on, the pitch, sound, phrasing etc are very different (vocally note by note obvious to hear differences). I am not a blog owner, I am not gonna get into this posting sound clips, emailing sound clips or hosting sound clips of these merges, the fact is the clips are out there to hear test and play with for yourself at home and decide. If Dean chooses to do this experiment and post it on his site it would be a good way to show how even JOURNEY can't play 2 different shows and have them "merge" unless they are ? I do encourage anyone that is curious like I was on either side of this debate to do the same thing, it is weird that all those other shows are merging, this is the same band, and if the "theory" that they are so tight and together after all these years is vaild then why didnt the 2006 faithfully not "merge" in synch to any of the other versions we have as example, (yet ALL those versions do synch up?). Off to do DSB too since I have the clip, just for my own experiment here. Bill

I remember an interview with Perry from years ago (ROR or earlier) where he said he purposely did songs a bit differently at each concert so he wouldn't ever be accused of lip-synching. Boy I miss the days when Journey was a class act...you know I feel sorry for Def Leppard guys in this whole thing too, I bet they wish they'd never heard of Journey.

I've just been surfin' around and I found this link on another site: www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=7E72BCCD756F4125I feel sick. This is from a recent show and they've evidently gone back to "live". Augeri sounds like a dying moose and even Deen's voice breaks (2:50 or so). I've not been a fan for a long time but this is just pathetic - I can't even make fun of them any more. Jeez guys, Journey is dead - give it a decent burial and let it R.I.P. :-/sparkle

Even though I'm not a fan of the current line up, I still find it sad that this is happening to Journey because I'm a such a fan of the Perry/Journey that I don't want to see this current situation hurt the Perry era in any way.
Also I remember all those times other fans on another board "heavily critzised" & "judged Perry" for canceling concerts for illness, & not touring for TBF. I recall they (Band) wanted Perry to sit on a stool to perform at the concerts. Obvisiouly Perry did the the "right thing" in taking care of HIMSELF, rather than performing a concert, when he wasn't healthy enough & able to give his best at the time.
It reminds me of that song, "Be Good To Yourself".

Relax no-one is ignoring you. Can't wait bring it on this has become quite comical for me due to the moderators that keep trying to place blame on you for not only destroying the band but for Craig Pitman's death. Seems they don't get it through their collective skulls that Journey brought this on themselves as well as Craig.
Well I must go now I have to get some rest I haven't been feeling well. I have been ill with a bad case of bronchitis/allergy and the head & throat pain I just wanna sleep it off. Oh wait this ought to make "NealisGod" feel better, I do remember that made him laugh that I was in pain so laugh on I really don't mind it at all. It only shows his/hers double standard, eh? Laugh at me but don't you all dare to laugh at Journey or Agueri? Ha, like I said this is quite comical.
Happy 4th of July all !

By the way...........Here is a shocker; The Vegas 2001 DVD? Not Live at all. Yup, you heard it right. The Vegas 2001 was recorded IN Studio! I am not kidding about this. They played it live that night for real, but the released copy is anything BUT live. Deano, didn't know what you were talkin about (everyone ignoring you) so I went back and re-read a few posts, this comment I missed, what makes ya think that it was all recorded in a studio vs the actual live recording from that night that had been "tweaked" before release? I know many artists do tweak up a live show especially before releasing a dvd of it, but curious where or how or why you think the vegas show was done live yet the dvd itself uses a whole different track? (unless I misunderstood the post). Bill

Had 3 scripts to fill and was told to stay indoors with AC on vs outside air. She too is sleeping it off most of the day. Bill

Here's a journalist's review of Friday night. From a fan review at the Crock, Augeri was sounding rough last night. I imagine tonight isn't going to be any better. Maybe Neal is going t play a lot of patriotic solos!!!! cityguide.aol.com/washington/entertainment/event.adp?page=detailSummary&id=2996689&layer=eventsFrom the Editors Bust out the stonewashed jeans and grab your lighter. Def Leppard and Journey are bringing their slick, overproduced brand of arena rock to a town near you. Both bands have been rockin' since the '70s, and although they've had a few lineup changes over the years, their ability to entertain the masses with infectious pop hooks has remained a constant. The Bands: Born in Sheffield, England, in 1977, the Lep has seen its share of tragedy, with one member succumbing to the perils of alcohol and another losing his arm in a car accident. Yet, they persevered to create accessible pop-metal and sell millions of records in the '80s and '90s. Journey, on the other hand, is a shadow of its former self. In fact, they shouldn't even be allowed to use the name anymore. Vocalist and chief songwriter Steve Perry is no longer a Journey-man. His voice was perhaps the defining instrument in the band, but he left in the late '90s to rest up and pursue other interests. This new guy, Steve Augeri, may be able to hit those high notes, but he's no "city boy livin' in a lonely world." The Songs: It's safe to say, during any given week during the 1980s, either a Def Leppard song or a Journey tune was firmly entrenched on the Top 10 pop chart. The lads from Britain first hit it big with 'Photograph' and 'Rock of Ages,' bolstered by constant airplay on then-fledgling network MTV. They followed it up with 'Pour Some Sugar on Me', 'Animal' and 'Hysteria.' Journey's success with power ballads like 'Don't Stop Believin',' 'Open Arms' and 'Faithfully' forced similar bands of the day to search for that radio-friendly formula. Soon, every group on the charts had at least one slow guitar weeper in its repertoire. Quite an '05: Steve Perry was adopted by the Chicago White Sox during their playoff run, even joining the team at their victory parade in downtown Chicago to sing his defining song 'Don't Stop Believin'.' Earlier that year, Journey earned a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. -- Rob Biedermann unreal at least acknowledge what is being said out there but Neal and Jon will probably whine and say "its all steve's fault, not ours, dont compare us , we tried, we are innocent, we had no control". sure sure. sounds familiar to the ever so whine they had about steve p leaving and stuff. s

"Journey, on the other hand, is a shadow of its former self. In fact, they shouldn't even be allowed to use the name anymore."
I think it's so ironic that reviewers have finally come to the conclusion that classic Journey fans have been saying for about 8 years now! The reviews are getting more brutal by the day. Now that they've trashed the name, they might as well FINALLY call it something else when they hire their new singer.....and they need one right away.

OUCH!!!! This is bad!!! This is a fan review from BT:
posted July 04, 2006 07:33 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well, if you love to hear Deen sing, you really would have loved tonight. Apparently Steve hasn't sounded well for the last few shows because he must have one heck of a flu or cold or something. After the first song it was quite apparent something wasn't right and it was all downhill from there.
Deen, thankfully, took the lead for numerous songs - including Faithfully and Open Arms. He let his roadie (I think?) take drums for those two. Augeri struggled hard through what he could, but really only sang half a song here and half a song there. There was also PLENTY of "let the audience sing". No encore, of course, and as they walked off stage Augeri put his head on Deen's shoulder. Don't get me wrong, I love Journey and I know this is just a bad night, but man, it was just awful to sit through. There was zero energy on stage, I'm sure the guys all knew how the evening was shaping up.
Steve did throw his mic stand WAY up in the air and catch it, which was quite cool. Being the 4th, the crowd loved SSB. I really think most of the crowd got into it by the end - at least from my 3rd row, right (Jon) side.
Personally, I'm crushed - I've been so looking forward to hearing Still They Ride live here in my hometown - and I thought it was a sure bet since they've played it EVERY NIGHT SO FAR but tonight. No Edge of the Blade, Keep on Runnin, Where Were You, or Mother Father. I'm guessing since Deen was singing so much else, they took all of the above out.
So, out of 9 shows, this is my only bummer of a show. Neal's playing was great, Ross was a clown, Jon was absorbed in the music, and Deen really did an awesome job. I don't want this to sound harsh - I really DO understand how a sick lead singer can ruin the night - but why did it have to be MY night? Will it be another 5 years before they come back? I KNOW next year's show that I see will be SO MUCH better. I do love you still, JRNY
To end on a positive note, my brother, who saw Perry with me in 94 but had never seen Journey, said the show really was awesome on the lawn seats - though everyone was confused asking if the drummer was the lead singer.
PS - For all the ladies who want the fashion report, Steve had on a red shirt with jeans.
